a project to join
We are a field crops group at Atatürk University in Erzurum, working on crop cultivation and breeding. Much of our recent work deals with how crops cope with limited water, mainly through field trials in the semi-arid Eastern Anatolian highland at around 1800 to 2000 m. We run irrigation and water deficit experiments on cereals, legumes and industrial crops, and routinely measure plant water status, canopy temperature, stomatal conductance, water use efficiency and yield. We also have experience with multi-location and on-farm trials together with farmers, and can add lower-altitude sites when a comparison is needed. In a consortium we would be happy to take on the field component: providing reliable ground data for remote sensing or crop and water models, and linking the work to farmers in the region.
Topic 1. Integrated Monitoring and Assessment for Sustainable Water Management
Topic 2. Nature-Based Approaches for Resilient Water Management at Hydrological and Hydrogeological System Scale
Our group works on crop responses to water deficit under field conditions. We run deficit irrigation trials on a wide range of field crops at locations across Türkiye with different altitudes (up to 2000 m) and semi-arid climate. Plant water status and stress are monitored throughout the season with UAV-based imaging and in-field sensors, together with physiological, soil and yield measurements. These data can be used to develop plant-based stress indicators, define crop-specific stress thresholds for irrigation scheduling, and support crop models and decision support tools for agricultural water use. We are interested in joining a consortium as the partner responsible for field trials and plant-level monitoring.
