Fraunhofer IKTS, Department of Condition Monitoring, develops and validates end-to-end sensor-based monitoring solutions for aquatic environments and infrastructure exposed to water. Our expertise includes: • Sensor development: acoustic, electromagnetic and optical sensors; sensing hardware and robust sensor integration • System integration: sensor embedding, automated data acquisition, software development and application-specific system integration • Data analysis: signal processing, data fusion, anomaly detection, application-specific programming, databases and dashboards • Modelling and optimisation: modelling, system design and optimisation • Electronics and power supply: custom electronics development and prototyping; wired, optical and energy-autonomous power-supply concepts • Testing and validation: accredited test laboratory for the validation of technologies and systems
Topic 1. Integrated Monitoring and Assessment for Sustainable Water Management
Topic 3. Smart, Secure and Adaptive Water Infrastructures for Sustainable Water Management
Fraunhofer IKTS is seeking to join a Water4All 2026 consortium, with primary focus to Topic 1: Integrated Monitoring and Assessment for Sustainable Water Management and Topic 3: Smart, secure and adaptive water infrastructures. We provide field-oriented, multimodal monitoring solutions that combine acoustic, electromagnetic and optical sensing with data fusion, anomaly detection, modelling and visual decision-support tools. Our experience includes condition monitoring of bridges, ports and subsea cables; in-situ monitoring of trees and soils; and the development of optical and acoustic sensor systems for industrial, environmental and marine applications. We have access to field-testing opportunities on the Warnow River (Germany) and in Baltic Sea coastal waters, enabling in-situ pilot deployment and validation in riverine and coastal settings.
