Our team at Kingston University London has expertise in IoT-based decision-support systems for smallholder irrigation, with a focus on Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) water management for rice cultivation. We work on sensor network deployment, real-time field water level and groundwater monitoring, automated alerting for irrigation scheduling, and validation of low-cost sensing technology in resource-constrained rural settings.
Keywords: IoT irrigation monitoring, Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), smart water sensing, smallholder water management
We are interested in joining a Water4All 2026 consortium addressing precision irrigation, water-use efficiency, smart water monitoring, or digital tools for sustainable agricultural water management, and can contribute experience in field sensor deployment, data-driven irrigation decision support, and technology adoption in smallholder farming contexts.
Topic 1. Integrated Monitoring and Assessment for Sustainable Water Management
Topic 3. Smart, Secure and Adaptive Water Infrastructures for Sustainable Water Management
We are seeking to join a Water4All 2026 project focused on IoT-enabled precision irrigation, smart water monitoring, or decision-support systems for sustainable agricultural water management. Our team has hands-on experience deploying and validating a cloud-based IoT decision-support system for Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) irrigation across five Water User Associations and 25 smallholder rice farms in West Bengal, India, covering sensor network deployment, real-time water level and groundwater monitoring, automated SMS-based irrigation alerting, and cross-validation of sensor data against manual field logs. We are interested in joining a consortium to extend this work to new geographies, crop systems, or water infrastructure contexts, and can contribute expertise in field sensor deployment strategy, low-cost sensing technology validation, and the technical and operational factors that determine successful IoT deployment in resource-constrained rural settings. We are particularly keen to collaborate with partners working on hydrological monitoring, smart infrastructure, or precision agriculture within the scope of Water4All 2026.
