Karez Systems is a Pakistani company running a diagnosis-driven approach to groundwater management: we integrate subsurface hydrogeology, hydrology, and local demand data to diagnose each groundwater management zone before selecting an intervention (managed aquifer recharge, ASR, infiltration systems, water reuse, demand management, treatment infrastructure, or alternative sources), rather than defaulting to one fix regardless of site fit. We build and operate what we design ourselves, not just consulting.
We are currently running an active pilot in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Pakistan, targeting managed aquifer recharge in a diagnosed groundwater management zone, in a city where groundwater depth has increased by tens of metres over two decades. Two letters of intent are secured from private housing societies (~8,300 residential units combined) as demand-side evidence.
Keywords: groundwater diagnostics, managed aquifer recharge (MAR), site-specific intervention selection, build-operate water infrastructure, South Asia water scarcity.

A diagnosis-driven groundwater management pilot in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Pakistan, a metropolitan area where groundwater depth has increased by ~33m (Islamabad) and ~21m (Rawalpindi) over two decades, and where the majority of residents rely on informal groundwater sources. We diagnose each groundwater management zone's hydrogeology, hydrology, and demand before selecting and implementing the best-matched intervention (managed aquifer recharge, ASR, infiltration, or others), then build and operate it directly.
Pakistan is not among the funded countries under this call, so we are not seeking direct funding for our organisation. We are looking for a Partner: an eligible European research institution or geological survey with groundwater, hydrogeology, managed aquifer recharge, or water infrastructure monitoring expertise, to co-develop a joint proposal under Topic 1, 2, and/or 3. We would contribute our active, already-diagnosed field site, operational and monitoring data, and infrastructure build/operate capability as a subcontracted validation environment or demonstration site within the funded partner's budget.
