IDAEA is the leading environmental research center of CSIC. Our expertise lies in hydrogeology and hydrochemistry, with a strong focus on numerical modelling of groundwater flow and solute and heat transport, and on understanding anthropogenic impacts on surface water (e.g., lakes, rivers) and groundwater systems. Our research combines field-based, hydrogeochemical and modelling approaches to investigate water quantity, quality and the fate and transport of emerging contaminants and microplastics. We also use environmental tracers and paleoclimatic approaches to reconstruct groundwater dynamics and past environmental conditions, helping to identify and quantify human impacts on water resources. A major focus of our work is assessing how climate change and anthropogenic pressures affect groundwater availability, quality and functioning, and developing Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) and other sustainable approaches to mitigate these impacts and enhance the resilience of water resources.

We are looking to join a multidisciplinary consortium addressing water-related challenges, particularly those related to groundwater resilience, climate change and anthropogenic pressures. We are especially interested in projects dealing with water quantity and quality, emerging contaminants and microplastics, wastewater, sustainable agriculture, and the development of Nature-Based Solutions. We can contribute expertise in hydrogeology and hydrochemistry, numerical modelling of groundwater flow and solute and heat transport, environmental tracers, contaminant fate and transport, and the assessment of climate and anthropogenic impacts on groundwater systems. We can also provide relevant field-based case studies and contribute to the design and evaluation of sustainable water management strategies.
