Water Resources Assessment and Management
Hydrogeology and Groundwater Investigations
Climate Resilience and Environmental Monitoring

Recent research interests and publications:

Spatial uncertainty and policy decision-making using GIS.
GIS-based mapping and assessment of water sources for rural water security.
Groundwater potential assessment and hydrogeological investigations.
Application of geospatial technologies in environmental management and sustainable development.

Ongoing activities/projects:

Development of a book titled Spatial Uncertainty and Policy Decisions in the GIS Era.
Research and consultancy projects on water source mapping, water quality assessment, and climate-resilient water resource management in Tanzania.
Capacity building and training in GIS, remote sensing, and environmental data analysis.
Topic 1. Integrated Monitoring and Assessment for Sustainable Water Management
Project Title:
Climate-Resilient Water Security and Sustainable Irrigation Systems for Smallholder Farmers in Southern Tanzania
Project Description
This project aims to enhance water security, climate resilience, and sustainable agricultural productivity in water-stressed rural communities of Southern Tanzania. The initiative builds on a comprehensive GIS-based assessment of 67 water sources across Lindi and Mtwara Regions, which identified heavy dependence on natural water sources, declining water availability, weak infrastructure, poor financial sustainability, environmental degradation, and significant irrigation water-quality constraints, particularly salinity and sodicity risks.

We are seeking European partners with expertise in hydrology, climate adaptation, irrigation engineering, water quality, remote sensing, GIS and spatial modelling, nature-based solutions, water governance, environmental economics, and socio-economic resilience assessment. The project aims to deliver innovative, science-based, and policy-relevant solutions that support both European Water Resilience Strategy objectives and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 2, 6, and 13).
climate resilience, sustainable water management, integrated water resources management (iwrm), water security, climate-smart irrigation, water quality monitoring, gis and remote sensing, nature-based solutions, community water governance, agricultural water productivity
We intend to participate in Water4All networking activities and partner brokerage events, as well as major international conferences related to water resilience, climate adaptation, GIS and remote sensing, water governance, and sustainable irrigation, including EGU 2027, World Water Week 2027, and relevant African and European water-sector conferences.
