a project to join
Sustainable Environmental Solutions (SES) Pvt. Ltd. is a Pakistan-based environmental engineering and consultancy company and NUST spin-off. Our expertise includes wastewater characterization, treatment-process design, decentralized sanitation, environmental assessment and field performance validation.

For Water4All, SES proposes to contribute to modular containerized wastewater treatment using membrane bioreactors (MBR), moving bed biofilm reactors (MBBR) and sequencing batch reactors (SBR) as alternative configurations. Our proposed contribution includes site assessment, process selection, hydraulic and pollutant-load assessment, pilot integration, operational monitoring and technical validation.

We are interested in comparing treatment reliability, energy consumption, footprint, sludge production and lifecycle costs under seasonal loads and phased capacity expansion. SES proposes a Pakistan demonstration case, subject to site access and agreed resources.

Core skills: decentralized wastewater treatment, modular process design, biological treatment, performance assessment.
Topic 2. Nature-Based Approaches for Resilient Water Management at Hydrological and Hydrogeological System Scale
Topic 3. Smart, Secure and Adaptive Water Infrastructures for Sustainable Water Management
ADAPT-WATER: Smart Modular Containerized Wastewater Treatment for Adaptive Decentralized Water Infrastructure.

SES seeks to join a consortium developing scalable decentralized wastewater systems using MBR, MBBR and SBR as alternative treatment configurations. The research would determine which configuration performs best under different wastewater characteristics, seasonal temperatures, variable loads and site constraints.

The project would compare treatment quality, energy, footprint, sludge production, operator requirements and lifecycle costs. Sensor-informed control would be tested against fixed operating strategies, including process-specific controls, remote supervision, secure access and local fallback. Phased expansion would be investigated by adding standardized modules.

SES proposes to contribute site characterization, engineering design, pilot integration and field validation in Pakistan, potentially in peri-urban, institutional or hilly settings. We seek partners in treatment technologies, membrane operation, sensors, adaptive control, cybersecurity and water-system assessment.
