a partner (for my project)
Our team at INCDO-INOE 2000 - Research Institute for Analytical Instrumentation (ICIA), Cluj-Napoca, Romania, brings a distinctive combination of environmental analysis, analytical chemistry, advanced analytical methodologies and instrumentation. ICIA has expertise in environmental monitoring and the analysis of water, soil, sediments, sludge, wastes and other environmental samples,, complemented by accredited environmental testing capabilities. The Institute's multidisciplinary structure also covers analytical instrumentation, spectroscopy, engineering and technological development, providing a strong basis for connecting chemical measurements with biological and ecological responses.
Topic 1. Integrated Monitoring and Assessment for Sustainable Water Management
We are developing an interdisciplinary consortium to investigate an emerging question in water quality and environmental resilience: can previous exposure to contaminants leave a persistent microbial “stress memory” that changes how microbial communities respond to subsequent contamination events?
While recurrent contamination is a challenge for many aquatic systems, the potential role of microbial exposure history in determining subsequent microbial responses, contaminant transformation and ecosystem recovery remains insufficiently understood.
Our concept is to investigate whether and how contamination history influences: - microbial function and community responses - contaminant transformation and persistence - ecological effects and recovery - resilience of water systems to repeated contamination.
We are looking for complementary partners with expertise in: - microbial ecology, microbial adaptation and resilience; - metagenomics, metatranscriptomics and microbial functional profiling; - microbial stress responses and environmental microbiology; - environmental toxicology and contaminant fate/transformation; - ecological impact assessment and water-system resilience; - water-quality modelling, exposure assessment and risk assessment.
We are particularly interested in partners who can help us move beyond a conventional “contaminant - effect” framework and investigate the role of exposure history in shaping microbial responses and environmental recovery.
