VLB Berlin – Research Institute for Biotechnology and Water (FIBW) is an applied research institute with expertise in industrial water management, water quality monitoring, wastewater treatment, applied microbiology and biotechnology. The institute operates an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory for chemical and microbiological water analysis and develops innovative solutions for water saving, water reuse, water recycling and optimisation of industrial water and wastewater treatment systems. FIBW combines advanced analytical capabilities with pilot-scale process optimisation, microbiology and fermentation technology. The institute has extensive experience in publicly funded collaborative R&D projects and works closely with industry to transfer research results into practice.
