Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlker AYDIN is an academic staff at the Faculty of Fisheries. He graduated from this faculty; Section of Fishing and Fish Processing Technology, department of Fishing Technology. His Ph. D was about reducing discarded marine species in sensitive habitats in the Mediterranean Sea. He has several undergraduate courses in his Faculty. Also, he has graduate courses both for master’s and PhD programs at the EU Graduate School of Natural and Applied Science on discarded marine species, fishing techniques, and impacts of alien species. He has been a member of ICES-FAO WGFTFB (Working Group of Fishing Technology and Fish Behaviour) since year 2004. He has worked on fisheries, marine biology, and fish stock assessment. He has published many scientific articles on these subjects in international journals and presented many research results in scientific meetings. He has coordinated and participated in national and international projects on reducing discard in fishery, selectivity of fishing gears, sustainable marine biodiversity, and impacts of alien species on fishery. He is also the coordinator of the ERASMUS KA220 VET project, still in progress acronymed MARIPET.

Water resources are essential for the proper functioning of ecological services and are undoubtedly crucial for the human and global economic well-being of all geographical regions of the world. The project accepts fisheries-based activities, which have already become industrial sectors, as one of the most important resources for human nutrition, leading to increased water consumption and the degradation of freshwater resources.n The project aims to create awareness of the water footprint in EU fisheries.
