Sustainable Blue Call 2024 on "Unified Paths to Climate-Neutral, Sustainable, and Resilient Blue Economy: Engaging Civil Society, Academia, Policy, and Industry"
I have an interdisciplinary background working at the intersection of international relations and economics, with a sustainable development bias. I am a professor in the master's and doctoral programs in Maritime Studies at the Brazilian Navy's school of advanced studies. My expertise over the last 6 years has been very focused on the following themes: blue economy, sectors and services associated with the sustainable ocean economy, ocean governance, marine spatial planning (MSP), and the climate-ocean nexus. Among my recent publications associated with the issue, I would highlight:
Book: - Santos, Thauan; Beirão, André P.; Araújo Filho, Moacyr C.; Carvalho, Andrea B. (Eds.) (2023). Blue economy: vector for the development of Brazil. Rio de Janeiro: Essencial Ideal Editora.
Articles: - Santos, Thauan; Assis Cabral, Joilson; Santos Lima, Paulo V.; Santos, Matheus A. (2024). Rio de Janeiro's ocean economy as a key vector for sustainable development in Brazil. Marine Policy 159, p. 105876. - Santos, Thauan; Colgan, Charles (2023). Regionalism Beyond Land Borders: Strengthening regional integration in Latin America and the Caribbean through blue economy policies. Brazilian Journal of International Relations 66: 1-24. - Santos, Thauan (2021). Dotting the I's and crossing the T's on the fifty shades of blue economy: an urgent step to address the UN Ocean Decade. Ocean And Coastal Research 69: 1-11.
PA2 - Blue economy sectors, development of marine multi-use infrastructures
PA3 - Planning and managing sea-uses at the regional level
I'm looking for a project to collaborate in the areas of blue economy, sustainable ocean economy sectors, MSP, and ocean governance. My background is largely focused on Latin American and Caribbean countries, but I have experience in research associated with the EU.
