The mission of the Oceanography Centre, University of Cyprus is to conduct basic and applied research in the fields of ocean physics and dynamics, remote sensing, operational oceanography, biological and chemical oceanography, dedicated ocean and marine data and forecasting models, aiming to contribute in the scientific knowledge of the Levantine Basin. In addition, it aims to improve and develop various components of operational monitoring and forecasting of the marine system at local, sub-regional and regional scales.
Dr. Demetriou has over 15 years of experience in the fields of marine biology and ecology, with expertise in phytoplankton dynamics, satellite remote sensing data, conservation oceanography, as well as ecology of endemic and non-indigenous species, population and community dynamics, effects of climate change, and policy implementation.
