Sustainable Blue Call 2024 on "Unified Paths to Climate-Neutral, Sustainable, and Resilient Blue Economy: Engaging Civil Society, Academia, Policy, and Industry"
I am interested in the extraction, purification and characterisation of different molecules (i.e. polysaccharides, proteins and phenols) with potential applications in the food industry from microalgae, seaweed and other agrifood by-products. I am particularly interested in the use and optimisation of the extraction of multiple compounds using innovative technologies and bioactivity-purification guided approaches for the isolation of functional molecules with potential to be sold as nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals or cosmetics and health claims (anti-hypertensive, anti-oxidant, anti-cancer, anti-microbial and immunomodulatory). I also have expertise in structure-function relationships of the isolated molecules that could influence their use within certain food and feed matrices. I have been succesful in several EU and National projects related to seaweed processing.

I will be interested in joining a research project in which the use of innovative technologies, chemical characterisation, new ingredients, valorisation of the biomass and biological activity of the ingredients will be relevant.
