PA1 - Planning and managing sea uses at the regional level
Maritime and marine industries have been and are important sectors for economic growth and development. They have been in forefront of technological shifts and technological skills. Marine and maritime challenges and solutions have been in the cutting edge of Norwegian economic development. One important feature is the reduction of fuel consumption through use of new technologies. This project first aims at mapping the empirical importance of the marine and maritime sectors for regions. Secondly, it aims at calculating possible green efficiency gains of the use of newly developed dynamic technologies. Hence, the main questions for this project are: 1) Which role do maritime companies play in the growth and restructuring of the regional economy? How collaboration within the maritime supply chains can facilitate sustainable value creation in the region? 2) Which role can technology play in the restructuring of the marine sector in line with the sustainable transition? This project will focus on some of the necessary measures and actions to make the maritime regions more competitive. Industrial symbiosis as a collaborative strategy for sustainable economic activities is required across the entire maritime value chain that has the potential to increase innovation capacity and efficiency, accelerate and reinforce the green transition, and this will contribute to emission cuts, create new jobs along the entire coast, and result in new green export income.
