My research focuses on understanding the impact on the physiological status including specifically the influence on the metabolic status and biological process of both anthropic factors (microplastic, heavy metals presence and fishing effort) and the climate changes.

PHYsiological and Ecotoxicological Effects Of Microplastics and Personal Care Products In MEDiterranean Marine Ecosystems.

The aim of this project is to assess the presence of different personal care and MPs alone and in combination in some important Mediterranean marine ecosystems and studying how their combination may influence some model organisms like shellfish and fish inhabiting these ecosystems. Thus, the project will have two main and complementary approaches of study: chemical (to identify singular compounds and calculate their concentrations in the water column, and tissues) and biological analysis (to investigate the toxicity of alone personal care products and microplastics and combined in organisms via biochemical, physiological, and genetical biomarkers).
