Biotech North is an industry cluster with a focus on the development of marine health products from ocean to market. The cluster represents one of Norway's strongest environments within marine biotechnology. Biotech North has around 40 members, mainly from northern Norway, but has also from outside the region. The cluster also has a strong focus on circular economy, LCA and industrial symbioses. The cluster focuses on biotechnology as the engine of the green shift, and especially on the use of residual raw materials from fisheries and aquaculture, new marine resources such as macro/micro algae and low-trophic fish, as well as bioactive molecules that can be found through marine bioprospecting. The end products are marine health products in the broadest sense, e.g. nutritional supplements, new medicines, functional ingredients for food and feed, or enzymes used in diagnostics, but also biotechnolgy as a tool for taking care of other industry side streams. The companies in the cluster possess valuable knowledge about various applications and commercialization within these sectors. In addition, the cluster has strong R&D partners.
Biotech North can assist in connecting projects to relevant industry partners and research partners in the cluster, and through our network to other clusters in Norway, or to relevant infrastructure in Norway. As cluster administration, we can assist projects with project management, communication, workshops.
