a partner (for my project)
I have a PhD in Computational Modeling and research group leader, coordinator of the Biosystems Modeling and Simulation Program. My main focus is on applications for artificial intelligence, pattern recognition and computer vision. We have already carried out local and collaborative projects and therefore seek to advance our regional and international partnerships both for technological, technical and theoretical increment.

Within the scope of the project, we have laboratory facilities equipped with equipment and advanced computational applications and simulation resources. As it is also possible to carry out biological analyzes of our research target, microplastics.

Through international collaboration we can bring significant scientific advances to Bahia and Brazil. For example, we are currently involved in a project that aims to develop advanced algorithms to detect and track microplastics in Baía de Todos Santos using artificial intelligence and computer vision. This project has the potential to significantly improve our understanding of the impact of microplastics on marine ecosystems and human health.
PA2 - Development of offshore marine multi-use infrastructures to support the blue economy
PA3 - Climate-neutral, environmentally sustainable and resource-efficient blue food and feed
Our main motivation for the microplastic detection, recognition and classification project is the growing concern about the environmental impacts of these materials on marine life and the ecosystem in general. Microplastics are small plastic particles less than 5 mm in diameter, which can be found in large quantities in oceans, rivers and lakes.
The overall objective is the recognition, identification and classification of microplastics in Baía de Todos os Santos, Bahia, Brazil, assessing the impacts on this body of water and on the food chain, identifying sources of pollution and creating mitigation strategies to reduce the amount of microplastics in the environment.
As an expected result, we have: Identification and quantification of microplastics in water bodies: It is expected that the project allows the precise identification and quantification of microplastics in the water body of Baía de Todos os Santos.
Identification of pollution sources. Assessing the effects of microplastics on marine life: Assessing the effects of microplastics on marine life, including mortality and accumulation of microplastics in marine organisms. Development of new techniques for detecting and classifying microplastics: allowing the development of new techniques for detecting and classifying microplastics, including improvements in existing techniques and the development of new technologies.
