The Ludwig-Franzius-Institute (LuFI) offers proven expertise in the fields of coastal enginnering (e.g. natur-based coastal protection, nearshore processes), offshore engineering (e.g. hydrodynamics and loads on offshore wind structures, scour) and maritime construction logitstics. The LuFI has world-renowned large-scale hydraulic laboratory facilities (Large Wave and Current Flume, 3D Wave and Current Basin) that are available to the project members. In addition, we provide experience in small and large-scale modeling of hydrodynamic processes and sediment transport processes. Our current projects include the Collaborative Research Center 1463 "Design and operate future offshore megastructures using digitial twins".
PA1 - Planning and managing sea uses at the regional level
PA2 - Development of offshore marine multi-use infrastructures to support the blue economy
PA5 - Digital Twin of the Ocean (DTO) test use cases at EU sea-basins and the Atlantic Ocean
We would like to establish or join a consortium that deals with the modeling and evaluation of various multi-use concepts (wave or current energy converters, photovoltaic, aquaculture, hydrogen, artifical reefs) for the expansion or conversion of offshore wind farms to reduce conflicts in competing use claims between stakeholders. To do this, we want to compare different multi-use concepts in terms of their economic, technical and logistical feasibility, as well as their potential impacts on the marine environment, stakeholders, MSP and society.
