J.C.M. Pires is an Assistant Researcher at LEPABE. He has strong expertise in environmental applications of microalgae (CO2 capture and wastewater treatment), microalgal technology, process modelling and integration. His teaching activity comprises several multidisciplinary topics, such as Project of Engineering (for Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Bioengineering), Air Pollution, among others. He is/was the Principal Investigator of five research projects (total funding 0.80 M€): (i) FCT Investigator Grant IF/01341/2015 (2017-2021); (ii) project PIV4Algae (2018-2022); (iii) Power2Biofuel (2021-2022); (iv) Environmental Management at IMPETUS (2021-2022); and (v) PhotoBioValue (2022-2024). He is/was also involved in other (11) research projects. He is (co)-author of 76 papers (>4100 citations, h-index=29), 6 books and 27 book chapters. He was on the list of the world's most cited scientists (career-long impact and single-year impact) released by Stanford University in 2020-2022. J.C.M. Pires (co)-supervises/(co)-supervised more than 40 students, including Post-Doc Fellows, PhD- and MSc-students. He is a member of the Editorial Board of seven international journals, including Bioengineering and Biotechnology (Frontiers) and Algal Research (Elsevier).
