She is professor in the Department of Environment and Planning in the University of Aveiro and researcher at the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM). With more than 8 years of professional experience, her main fields of expertise are Integrated Coastal and Marine Planning and Management, Spatial Planning of Protected Areas, Strategic Planning, AIA/ SEA. She is participating/has participated in national (FCT; EEA Grants) and international research projects on ICZM, MSP and Environment and Socioeconomic Assessment. Some of these projects are SIMNORAT, SIMATLANTIC; TPEA: AQUACROSS (H2020), LAGOONS (FP7), and SPRES: Oil Spill Prevention and Response (INTERREG IV). Fatima Lopes Alves has long experience in working has a consultant for public and private organizations. Coordination of multidisciplinary teams has member of the coordination team of the Portuguese Maritime Spatial Planning and Coastal Zone Management Plans in the Portuguese mainland and of Azores islands. She is editor of 7 books, co-author of 15 books chapters and author of 51 papers in ISI journals in the area of Coastal and Maritime Management and Planning. Expert to the international enterprises: B&S Europe (Brussels) and GIZ (German) in the scope of Marine Protected Area in the Atlantic space and, in the scope of maritime Spatial Planning and ICZM for the Benguela Current Comission (Angola, Namibe and South Africa).
