I am looking
for a project to join
Field: AI-based sensing and edge computing (Electrical Engineering).
Main skills (keywords): deep-learning image segmentation; Kolmogorov-Arnold Network (KAN)-based U-Net with knowledge distillation (KA-UNet); edge AI on embedded GPUs (NVIDIA Jetson); color science and CNN/U-Net-based colorimetry. Also: wireless-link reliability for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Relevant publications: CNN/U-Net-based colorimetry in Sensors (MDPI), Sensors and Materials, and the Journal of Imaging Science and Technology (2019-2024).
Proposed contribution: an AI-sensing work package (automated bird counts and canopy-health mapping from drone imagery; edge acoustic, microclimate and water-level sensor nodes) and a contrasting case site in Kinmen, Taiwan, with local partners in formation.

Remote Sensing
Taiwanese team (Taiwan's NSTC is a participating funder) seeking to join a BiodivFuture consortium on artificial lakes, dammed or constructed wetlands, coastal lagoons or wetland water management. We offer a contrasting Asian case site and an AI-sensing work package.
Case site, Kinmen Island (Taiwan): Ci Lake, a bay dammed for military purposes, is now a semi-enclosed brackish lagoon and the island's only nationally important wetland. With two other lakes, it hosts over 10,000 wintering great cormorants that roost on ageing post-war Casuarina plantations. Roost loss has been linked to tree dieback, typhoon damage, low rainfall and dredging. Water is scarce (annual rainfall below 1,000 mm) and contested among residents, industry and wetlands, which is relevant to Themes A, B and C.
We bring drone imagery with deep-learning segmentation for bird counts and canopy health, plus edge acoustic, microclimate and water-level sensor nodes. Local partners in Kinmen are part of a team in formation; ecologists are being invited.
We also hold a draft concept (ROOSTFUTURES: military-legacy wetlands, roost forests and cormorants, Kinmen × Europe) and welcome a European coordinator. Concept note on request.

Available for online meetings (Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet) at short notice before the 10 November 2026 pre-proposal deadline. Based in Taiwan (UTC+8): Taiwan afternoons overlap with European mornings. Contact: neojwang@gm.lhu.edu.tw. A short concept note on the Kinmen case site is available on request.
