I am looking for a project to join
My main areas are signal processing and deep learning with the focus on applications in biodiversity monitoring and sustainable farming. I have mostly worked on bioacoustics (birds) but I am interested integrating different sensing modalities and also other groups of animals. One of my current interest is in blind estimation of the size of a population of a species based on automatic detection of individuals and reasoning using LLM technology, where we have large unique data sets of recordings with known counts (see https://biodcase.github.io/challenge2026/task6).
Conservation Biology
Electrical engineering, electronics, information engineering
I would be interested in developing active sensing methods for novel ecosystems (cities, buffer zones, wetlands, ...) where an autonomous drone/robot platform takes the sensors (mics/cameras) where the animals are, the goal could be to estimate the density/abundance of insects, birds, amphibians, and/or mammals in an area, and discovery of causal relations between human activities and climate change on the composition and behavior of animal populations.
bioacoustics, abundance and density estimation, active monitoring
I will be at INLG and BNAIC soon. I will also join DCASE but only remotely.
