for a project to join
My research expertise lies at the intersection of biodiversity conservation, novel ecosystems, Nature-based Solutions (NbS), landscape ecology and artificial intelligence. My work focuses on understanding how biodiversity, ecosystem functions and resilience are shaped by landscape structure, environmental change and the emergence of novel ecological communities, with particular interest in urban and other emerging novel ecosystems and their potential implications for biodiversity conservation and ecosystem services.
I increasingly combine ecological knowledge with AI and computational modelling, including large language models (LLMs), multi-agent AI systems, machine learning and reinforcement learning, to develop new approaches for environmental assessment, scenario modelling and decision support. My particular interest is in using AI not simply as a prediction tool, but as a component of multi-agent modelling and decision-support systems capable of integrating ecological, spatial and socio-environmental information and exploring alternative ecosystem trajectories.
My research has addressed Nature-based Solutions from a landscape-ecology perspective, biodiversity conservation under climate change, landscape connectivity, novel ecosystems and urban ecology, as well as geoparks as potential climate refugia and applications of AI and GIS to environmental challenges. I hold an MSc in Biodiversity, Wildlife and Ecosystem Health from the University of Edinburgh.
Landscape ecology
Urban Ecology
I am interested in joining projects investigating **novel ecosystems, particularly in urban environments and other emerging or transformed ecological settings**, with a focus on biodiversity, ecological functioning and future trajectories. My research experience in **urban ecology, landscape ecology, biodiversity and Nature-based Solutions** provides a strong basis for investigating how novel ecological communities emerge and change, how they contribute to biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, and how their trajectories may develop under changing environmental conditions.
I am particularly interested in understanding the **drivers, ecological consequences and future trajectories of novel ecosystems**, including their potential opportunities, risks and trade-offs for biodiversity conservation and Nature-based Solutions.
I can additionally contribute expertise in **artificial intelligence, multi-agent modelling, large language models, machine learning and reinforcement learning**. I am interested in applying these approaches to ecological scenario modelling and decision support, including exploring alternative trajectories of novel ecosystems and interactions between ecological and socio-environmental factors.
I would therefore be particularly interested in interdisciplinary projects connecting **novel ecosystems, biodiversity, urban and landscape ecology, Nature-based Solutions and emerging AI-based modelling approaches**.
