I am looking for a project to join
I am an Environmental Analyst and researcher at CEMAVE/ICMBio (Brazil), working in bioacoustics and soundscape ecology, with a focus on the acoustic regions approach. I designed and coordinate a standardised soundscape monitoring protocol for Brazilian federal protected areas, developed within the ICMBio "Monitora" Programme (the national biodiversity monitoring programme).

I currently run soundscape monitoring initiatives in four Brazilian ecosystems that together span a gradient of ecological stability: the Pantanal, the Caatinga, campo rupestre (rupestrian grasslands) and Amazonia. I have field experience across all Brazilian biomes and an international background (MSc in Spain, PhD in New Zealand). I served as a Lead Author in the IPBES Monitoring assessment, which links my work to international science–policy processes.

My main contributions to a consortium would be: a tested, transferable soundscape monitoring protocol; acoustic datasets across contrasting biomes; access to protected-area field sites and a direct interface with Brazilian biodiversity monitoring and policy; and expertise in acoustic indicators and cross-site soundscape comparison.
Landscape ecology
I am looking for a project to join, mainly under Theme A (Novel ecosystem functioning) and Theme B (Pathways to novel ecosystems), with possible links to C.

I use soundscape monitoring to detect and track ecological novelty across ecosystems on different trajectories. My four Brazilian sites form a built-in comparative design. The Pantanal shows strong signs of having crossed a point of no return (a candidate novel ecosystem); the Caatinga and campo rupestre are further candidates, given confirmed and projected rainfall decline; Amazonia is the most likely reference, with greater stability. Soundscapes are a functional signature of shifts in species composition, phenology and acoustic niche use. This links to Theme C: as novelty emerges in areas long regarded as wild, the notion of "wilderness" and the values guiding conservation are called into question.

I intend to participate with support from FAPESQ-PB (Brazil). This funding is limited (a single small grant), suitable for short visits and consumables, but not long stays. I am also interested in longer stays to implement our protocol in partner ecosystems on other continents; these would need partner-side funding, as Brazil cannot cover them. I would welcome a postdoc focused on protocol implementation and analysis.

I am especially interested in partners bringing modelling and scenario analysis, remote sensing, machine learning for acoustic data (an ongoing German collaboration), and social-science or policy expertise.
soundscape ecology, bioacoustics, acoustic regions, biodiversity monitoring, novel ecosystems, ecological trajectories, tipping points, acoustic indicators, protected areas
Open to online meetings with consortia addressing themes above mentioned. I can bring Brazilian protected-area sites and ongoing acoustic monitoring, and I am interested in secondments and a postdoc linked to protocol implementation and analysis.
