I am an Assistant Professor at Haramaya University, Ethiopia, with more than 15 years of experience in biodiversity conservation, rangeland and grassland ecology, climate change, drought assessment, ecosystem restoration, grazing management, and environmental resource management. I hold a PhD in Climate Smart Agriculture and Biodiversity Management, with a dissertation on climate change, drought dynamics, and nature-based solutions in the Ganale Dawa River Basin, Ethiopia.
My research focuses on biodiversity and vegetation dynamics, rangeland and grazing-land management, ecosystem degradation and restoration, climate–ecosystem interactions, invasive species and bush encroachment, and livestock–ecosystem relationships. I have led and contributed to research projects on rangeland biodiversity, grazing impacts, ecosystem restoration, land-use change, carrying capacity, and climate-related ecosystem dynamics.
I also have strong experience in GIS, remote sensing, Google Earth Engine, GeoAI, machine learning, spatial modelling, and environmental assessment. My recent publications address bush encroachment and drought, grazing management under climate change, drought dynamics, and livestock feed resources for biodiversity conservation.

Ecology
I am interested in joining a multidisciplinary BiodivFuture project examining how environmental change and human activities influence biodiversity, ecosystem functioning, socio-ecological systems, and future ecosystem trajectories.
My particular interest is in projects addressing biodiversity responses to climate change, drought, grazing, land-use change, and ecosystem degradation in rangeland, grassland, dryland, and mountain ecosystems. I would contribute expertise in biodiversity and vegetation assessment, rangeland ecology and management, ecosystem restoration, grazing–ecosystem interactions, climate and drought assessment, and nature-based solutions.
I can also contribute field-based ecological research from Ethiopia, local and community knowledge, and geospatial approaches including remote sensing, GIS, Google Earth Engine, GeoAI, and spatial modelling. My previous research and project experience includes biodiversity assessment, vegetation dynamics, bush encroachment, invasive species, grazing impacts, rangeland restoration, carrying capacity, and climate–ecosystem interactions.
I am particularly interested in joining a consortium that combines ecological, climate, geospatial, and socio-ecological approaches to understand biodiversity change and develop evidence-based pathways for resilient and sustainable ecosystems.
I am interested in networking with researchers and potential consortium partners working on biodiversity change, novel ecosystems, ecosystem functioning, climate resilience, ecosystem restoration, and socio-ecological systems. I am available for online discussions and consortium-development meetings related to the BiodivFuture call.
