The focus on novel ecosystems, biodiversity, socio-ecological consequences, and future trajectories aligns closely with our expertise in algae and their interactions with changing environments. Our experience in algal cultivation, algal toxins, soil and aerophytic algae, green façades, and algal–fungal biodiversity has enabled us to investigate how microorganisms establish, adapt, and function in both natural and human-modified habitats. These systems provide valuable insights into the emergence of novel ecological communities, their contributions to biodiversity, and their potential effects on ecosystem functioning and human well-being.
