RSU team bridges social sciences with environmental sciences and engineering to understand how environmental change, technological development and policy transitions affect people, communities and landscapes. Our work spans rural and urban contexts and focuses on socio-ecological systems, human–nature relations, transformed ecosystems, health and well-being, environmental perceptions and values, governance, tourism, and spatial and social justice.
We combine mixed-method social research with participatory and experimental approaches, including citizen science, living labs, co-creation and participatory mapping. We can contribute to evidence-based landscape planning and NBS design, scenario and decision-support development, pilot activities, and socio-cultural assessment of ecosystem benefits and trade-offs. We also bring experience in stakeholder and policy engagement, project development, and creative science communication and visualisation.

We can contribute to understanding how changing ecosystems and new technologies are perceived, adopted and governed by different communities; how ecosystem benefits and trade-offs are distributed; and how ecological change affects social and cultural practices, health and well-being. Our role can include stakeholder and community engagement, citizen science and living labs, participatory assessment, socio-cultural analysis, scenario development, landscape and NBS co-design, decision-support tools, and the development and evaluation of pilot interventions.
