We have multidisciplinary expertise in regenerative and sustainable business, marketing, business models, and sustainability transitions. At Lapland University of Applied Sciences, our Regenerative Business Research Programme examines how businesses and other organisations can move beyond reducing negative impacts towards creating positive ecological and social value.
Our expertise includes the development and analysis of regenerative and nature-positive business models, sustainable consumption and consumer behaviour, stakeholder engagement, regional business ecosystems, and sustainability-oriented transformation. We are particularly interested in how biodiversity, ecosystem condition, and restoration can be integrated into businesses, decision-making, value creation and regional development.
We also study the work and organisational side of sustainability transitions: what biodiversity related change requires from the people carrying it out, and how its benefits and cost are distributed.
We are especially interested in research relevant to Arctic, tourism, and natural resource-dependent regions.
Economics
We are interested in joining interdisciplinary Biodiversa+ projects focusing on sustainable use of natural resources and nature-positive business.
We are particularly interested in projects examining how businesses, communities and public-sector actors can contribute to novel ecosystems while creating viable and resilient economic activities. Relevant themes include regenerative and biodiversity-positive business models, incentives and barriers for business transformation, stakeholder engagement, new markets and value chains, and the integration of biodiversity into business and regional development. Barriers to change are also organisational, they lie in leadership practices and working conditions.
We can contribute socio-economic and business research to projects combining natural sciences with social sciences, particularly by analysing how biodiversity-related innovations and practices can be adopted, scaled and translated into new business models and practical solutions. The Regenerative Business Research Programme can also provide a strong applied research perspective and links to companies, regional actors and natural-resource-dependent sectors in northern Finland, where for instance tourism development plays a crucial role.
