Theoretical and computational ecologist studying how metabolism, species interactions, environmental variability and stochasticity shape ecological systems across biological scales. My research combines complex-systems theory, dynamical and stochastic modelling, information theory, causal inference and machine learning with empirical ecological data. A central theme of my work is understanding how processes operating at the level of individuals and species interactions generate emergent patterns of biodiversity, stability and ecosystem functioning. My research spans theoretical ecology, marine, freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems, with current work focusing on metabolic scaling, ecological complexity and the development of mechanistic, multiscale representations linking individual energetics to community and ecosystem dynamics.

I am looking to join a consortium investigating how novel ecosystems emerge, function and change under environmental and anthropogenic pressures. I am interested in projects addressing how changes in species composition, interactions and environmental conditions propagate across levels of biological organisation to affect biodiversity, ecosystem functioning, stability and resilience. I would like to contribute theoretical and computational approaches for identifying the mechanisms underlying these transitions and for exploring possible future ecosystem trajectories under environmental change and uncertainty. Of particular interest are questions concerning whether changes at the level of organisms and species interactions can provide mechanistic or predictive understanding of community- and ecosystem-level responses, including the emergence of alternative or novel ecological states. I can contribute dynamical and stochastic modelling, metabolic and allometric approaches, complex-systems and information-theoretic methods, causal inference and machine learning, and the integration of models with empirical ecological data. I am interested in collaborations across terrestrial, freshwater and marine systems, particularly projects combining empirical expertise with mechanistic and predictive modelling.
