We are seeking to join a collaborative project on invasive mosquitoes and/or mosquito-borne diseases, contributing expertise on the Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus), the Asian bush mosquito (A. japonicus), and the Korean bush mosquito (A. koreicus). Since 2019, we have coordinated Hungary's national mosquito surveillance programme, combining standardized field surveillance with citizen science to map the distribution and spread of invasive mosquito species. Our group's particular strength is the development of AI-based bioacoustic methods for the non-invasive detection and monitoring of mosquitoes, providing cost-effective alternatives to conventional trapping methods. We also apply advanced analytical approaches, including meta-analyses and the integration of diverse environmental and biological datasets. Our mosquito breeding laboratory enables controlled experiments, complemented by field studies, to investigate mosquito ecology, behaviour, and vector competence. We are particularly interested in combining artificial intelligence, bioacoustics, and integrated ecological data to develop innovative monitoring technologies and decision-support tools that strengthen early-warning systems for invasive mosquitoes and mosquito-borne diseases. Additionally, we investigate the social and economic impacts of invasive mosquitoes and translate scientific evidence into recommendations for policymakers and public health authorities.
