ICEB specializes in biodiversity monitoring, ecological data analysis, and the evaluation of ecosystem services at local and regional scales. The Centre combines expertise from ecology, geoinformatics, environmental engineering, sustainable structural engineerings and social sciences, enabling holistic assessments that integrate ecological, socio-economic, and cultural dimensions. ICEB maintains strong technical capacity for field research, remote sensing, spatial modelling, and the development of decision-support tools. The Centre’s researchers’ experiences with project related work ranges from several national and EU-level projects related to biodiversity assessment, ecosystem service mapping, nature-based solutions, and regional environmental planning. These experiences demonstrate strong capability to implement the foreseen activities in the project, especially in data collection, stakeholder engagement, pilot testing, and developing transferable methodologies for other territories. We are seeking to join an international consortium addressing the Biodiversa+ 2026–2027 call on novel ecosystems. Our team at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Ecosystem Services and Biodiversity (ICEB), Carinthia University of Applied Sciences, offers complementary expertise spanning biodiversity monitoring, ecosystem service assessment, ecological modelling, geoinformatics, AI-supported environmental data analysis, remote sensing, eDNA, GIS, and decision-support tools. We combine ecological, engineering and social science perspectives to study biodiversity and socio-ecological systems and have extensive experience in stakeholder engagement, citizen science, participatory methods, and science-to-policy communication. Our researchers have contributed to numerous Interreg and Horizon Europe projects and have strong capabilities in field sampling, spatial modelling, data integration, biodiversity assessment, and the development of transferable methodologies for environmental management. We are particularly interested in contributing to work on biodiversity monitoring and modelling, ecosystem functioning, impacts of novel ecosystems on biodiversity and ecosystem services, AI and digital technologies for environmental assessment, stakeholder engagement, and governance approaches that support resilient socio-ecological systems. We are looking for partners interested in integrating innovative monitoring approaches with practical conservation and management.
