I am looking for a partner (for my project)
Interdisciplinary researcher bridging ecoacoustic monitoring, biomaterials, and computational design. Research associate at the Materiability Research Group, Hochschule Anhalt, with an MA in Geo-Design. My work joins two capabilities rarely held by one person: hands-on bioacoustic and ecoacoustic monitoring (field recording, sensor deployment, signal analysis) and the design and fabrication of the instruments and material substrates that monitoring depends on. I develop mycelium-based biomaterials in applied prototyping contexts (mycelium bike-box; InMyCo collaboration) and work fluently in parametric 3D modelling (Rhino/Grasshopper), which I apply to sensor-array geometry, enclosure and housing design, and the modelling of habitat and substrate structures. My most recent publication, Sonic Footprints (setmargins*), reflects a sustained engagement with sound as a research and listening practice. Within a consortium I contribute as the partner who turns a monitoring concept into deployable, low-cost, field-ready instrumentation and who connects natural-science monitoring with material and design innovation.
Keywords/ expertise: ecoacoustic & bioacoustic monitoring · soil biodiversity · sensor prototyping & field deployment · mycelium biomaterials · parametric/computational design · science–design integration
Role I can take in the consortium: device and sensor development, field data collection, and the interface between ecological monitoring and material/technology design.

Project: SoilSound Index — a standardised ecoacoustic method to monitor soil faunal biodiversity. Soil holds most terrestrial biodiversity yet is monitored destructively and point-wise; both the EU Soil Monitoring Law and Biodiversa+ flag major gaps in scalable biological indicators. We aim to build a non-invasive passive-acoustic sensor network and a machine-learning pipeline that derives a calibrated acoustic diversity index for soil invertebrates, validated against conventional extraction and DNA metabarcoding, with an exploratory work package on acoustic estimation of invertebrate activity/biomass.
My group (Materiability, Hochschule Anhalt) contributes ecoacoustic monitoring, sensor/device prototyping and computational design.
I am looking for partners to make this transnational and scientifically robust: soil zoologists/ecologists providing taxonomic ground-truth and field sites across contrasting European soils and land uses (arable, grassland, forest, restoration); a lab for DNA metabarcoding to cross-validate acoustic signals; and expertise in bioacoustic signal processing/ML and in monitoring-to-policy uptake.
