Expertise / skills: I am an environmental microbiologist studying novel microbial ecosystems in anthropized coastal, port, and urban territories. I combine microbial ecology, biosurfactants, and bioremediation to understand self-organizing microbial functions in contaminated soils/sediments, and develop nature-based solutions for resource recovery from waste streams (dredged sediments, sludges) supporting circular bioeconomy under climate change. Keywords: #NovelEcosystems #MicrobialEcology #Bioremediation #PortEcosystems #CircularBioeconomy #NatureBasedSolutions Key publication: Ahmad et al. (2025). Reconstructing soil health from dredged sediments through electrokinetic remediation. J Environ Manage (submitted). Ongoing project: PERIDOT (Pakistan-France) – periphyton-based bioremediation of heavy metal contaminated sediments with biofuel production.

I am seeking to join a transnational consortium for the BiodivFuture call on novel ecosystems. My expertise in environmental microbiology, bioremediation, and microbial ecology aligns strongly with Theme A (functioning of novel ecosystems) and Theme B (trajectories towards novel ecosystems) . I can contribute to understanding how microbial communities self-organize in anthropized coastal, port, and urban environments, and how bio-based interventions (biosurfactants, microbial consortia) facilitate resource recovery and ecosystem (re)functioning under climate change. I bring over 15 years of international research experience, 40+ peer-reviewed publications, and proven ability in collaborative projects (e.g., PERIDOT France-Pakistan, MyTiger France-Malaysia). I am interested in joining a project that integrates microbial ecology with socio-ecological or governance dimensions, particularly in coastal/maritime territories. I can lead work packages on microbial community analysis, bioremediation efficacy, and nature-based solution development. I am also open to contributing to stakeholder engagement and transdisciplinary knowledge transfer. I look forward to contributing my skills to a high-impact BiodivFuture consortium.
I will attend MudNet 2026 (28-30 Sept, Le Havre) on sediment management & bioremediation, and Inter-Alliance AI Lab (4-6 Nov, Le Havre) on AI & nature-based coastal solutions. Both offer networking for BiodivFuture consortia on novel ecosystems in port territories.
