Keywords:
- Corals, Stem cells, Immunology, Resiliance.
Our laboratory research focuses on tissue acceptance by the immune system, and stem cell transplantation.
Due to the unique tools developed in the lab, we are using biomedical tools in ecological questions. For instance, in a unique project, we are characterizing, isolating, and transplanting coral stem cells. The idea is to be able to isolate stem cells from heat-resilient individuals and to transplant them to sensitive corals, to enable resilience in the sensitive individuals under heat stress. In additional project we show that immune manipulation can prevent coral bleaching, by showing that this process is comparable to human transplantation immunology.
