The Foodomics research group (https://www.cial.uam-csic.es/pagperso/foodomics/index_en.html) at the Institute of Food Science Research (CIAL-CSIC, Madrid, Spain) seeks partners for the Biodiversa+ call. Our interdisciplinary team (analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, nutrition, food science & technology) offers expertise in sustainable solutions for biodiversity and ecosystem services.
We specialize in: 1- Sustainable Bioactive Compound Exploration: Utilizing eco-friendly extraction techniques (sub/supercritical fluids, DES, NADES, biosolvents) to explore bioactive compounds from diverse biomass relevant to biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration. This includes plant-based materials, algae, microalgae, and agri-food byproducts. 2- Comprehensive Bioactivity & Chemical Profiling: Advanced analytical techniques (MS/MS, metabolomics) for in-depth characterization of chemical composition and bioactivity (antioxidant, neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory) of natural products, relevant to understanding ecosystem functions and promoting biodiversity.
Our group, led by Professor Alejandro Cifuentes (a.cifuentes@csic.es, ORCID: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7464-0217), has a strong record of successful European collaborations. We are eager to contribute our expertise to projects addressing the Biodiversa+ scope, particularly those focusing on food systems, circular economy, valorizing underused plants or algae or by-products.
