I’m a biologist with a background in molecular ecology and conservation genetics/biology, currently working at NIBIO Svanhovd, a biological research station directly at the border to Finland and Russia, in northeastern Norway, about 400 km north of the Arctic Circle. We are working in a transdisciplinary and transnational research setting on a broad project portfolio, ranging from terrestrial, wetlands and freshwater, as well as coastal ecosystems. A specific focus we have in many of our projects is the study of (genetic) connectivity in natural populations and how to use this knowledge to improve and restore connectivity and habitat quality for different taxonomic groups, ranging from insects, fishes, mammals, among others. We are working closely with the local and indigenous communities as well as local and regional natural resource management and governance bodies and are therefore, well embedded in the local community and have regular stakeholder engagements. Some other topics, we are working on, are: re-wilding and large carnivore management, Arctic food security and preparedness, climate change effects and adaptations, peatland restoration, biodiversity indicators, citizen science (including school children), … We would be interested to get in contact with potential partners to build up a consortium for the ‘Restoration of ecosystem functioning, integrity, and connectivity’ call. Please do not hesitate to contact me – I’m happy to chat about potential projects!
