Organic chemist whose primary expertise lies in designing and applying siderophores and xanthone derivatives for environmental remediation. Her work spans synthesizing novel chelating agents, characterizing metal-binding properties, and developing antifouling and antimicrobial solutions. She has published key articles on siderophore-based remediation and antifouling coatings, leads FCT-funded projects on efflux-pump inhibitor conjugates, and advances the understanding of marine pollutant mitigation strategies.
Keywords: Environmental chemistry, siderophores, heavy metal chelation and bioremediation, antimicrobial resistance and efflux pump inhibitors, biotechnological applications.
Recent Publications: - “Siderophores and metallophores: Metal complexation weapons to fight environmental pollution” (DOI: 10.1016/j.scitotenv.2024.173044) - “3,4‑Dioxygenated xanthones as antifouling additives for marine coatings: in silico studies, seawater solubility, degradability, leaching, and antifouling performance" (DOI: 10.1007/s11356-023-26899-1)
Projects: - “Siderophore efflux pump inhibitors (SEPIs) conjugates: A new concept for environmental problems” (FCT-funded) – Developing siderophore-based conjugates to tackle metal and microbial pollution - "Impact of synthetic chelating agents on metal toxicity in deep-sea bacteria" (CIIMAR‑funded COB project) – Exploring effects of synthetic chelating agents on deep-sea bacteria, with implications for marine environmental health
