My research focus includes i) field-based measurements for assessing tree species response to drought and species recovery (Beloiu et al., 2020; Beloiu, Stahlmann, et al., 2022; Beloiu Schwenke et al., 2023); ii) local and continental scale analysis of tree response to climate warming (Beloiu & Beierkuhnlein, 2019; Kidane et al., 2022; Beloiu, Poursanidis, et al., 2022) and increased disturbances (Petritan & Beloiu Schwenke, 2023; Petritan & Beloiu, 2024); iii) tree diversity monitoring using novel approaches – such as image analysis using DL, or machine learning, to generate inventory information (Beloiu et al., 2023a; Nasiri et al., 2023); iv) the development of software solution for forestry data processing (Murtiyoso et al., 2024) and a framework for near-real-time forest monitoring (Zweifel et al., 2023).
Forestry and forest sciences
I am interested in joining a project related to a) the potential of technological and digital innovations for biodiversity change; b) terrestrial biodiversity monitoring with remotely sensed data; c) ecosystem resilience to anthropogenic climate change; or d) deep learning applications for tree species and mortality detection.
