Small Hydroelectric Dams (SHDs) are Hydropower Plants that have between 5 and 50 megawatts (MW) of power and must have less than 13 km² of reservoir area. The research will focus on the effects of damming on river connectivity, mainly considered SHDs on a tropical river systems (in the Brazilian Amazon or other worldwide tropical biomas) and their biodiversity, using (i) tools for monitoring hydrodynamics variables and, (ii) sampling and analytical methods for protection and conservation of high importance fisheries resources in these river systems, (iii) obtain and analyse microbial life and biochemistry data in SHDs reservoirs or river stretches influenced by these enterprises and (iv) implement a methodology to quantify the greenhouse gas emissions for SHDs reservoirs in tropical reservoirs.
