Our research group examines the impact of (changes in) land use intensity and landscape structure on biodiversity, as well as on ecosystem functions and services, with a focus on agroecosystems. We integrate a diverse range of methods, including field surveys, ecological and biogeographical modeling, remote sensing, geospatial statistics, and artificial intelligence. Our goal is to advance the ecological understanding of agroecosystems and leverage this knowledge to develop effective management and conservation strategies that address the biodiversity crisis in European farmlands while minimizing trade-offs with human livelihoods.
We would like to join a project consortium with a focus on agricultural ecosystems. This may include cropland and grassland habitats, orchards and other permanent crops, and agroforestry systems. As a partner, we bring combined decades of experience and expertise in mapping and modelling of biodiversity patterns and changes (e.g., species distribution modelling, ecosystem mapping). Currently, we are actively engaged in projects using automated biodiversity sensing technologies, such as passive acoustic monitoring and camera traps, and in others capitalizing on our field surveys for testing ecological theories and cross-scale biodiversity mapping and monitoring.
