Green-blue infrastructure system planning successfully contributes to combating uncontrolled urban sprawl and land use that neglects the sustainability of landscapes and green open spaces and is a viable solution in mitigating the challenges of climate change. Connectivity is the key principle of spatial organization to ensure a better opportunity for the provision of ecosystem services, which can affect urban hydrology, mobility, recreation and cultural assets. In this context, the proposed project proposes an IT solution to assess the connectivity of green and blue areas in the metropolitan area of large cities and a consistent analysis regarding the identification of priority conservation areas to support decision-makers in the allocation of optimal resources for the conservation of ecosystems. The data used for landscape assessment will be consistent with land cover maps available at European Union level, such as CORINE (CLC) or URBAN ATLAS. The solution chosen in the evaluation of the spatial connectivity of the green-blue infrastructure components in the case of metropolitan areas of large cities is an innovative one, based on two GIS tools and by using satellite images of the European COPERNICUS program. The next stage of the project is the means of punctual implementation of the green-blue infrastructure elements. From this point of view, it is necessary to accurately map the abandoned or degraded lands and their 3D modeling to turn them into a multifunctional space.
