My research is interlinking urban ecology with sustainability transformations, in particular with a special interest in the role of inner transformations (values, mindsets, worldviews). In this regard, I have experience in the role of relational values of ecosysstem services as well as internal and external human-nature connections shaping a flourishing life in cities and beyond. Further concepts I am working with are ecosystem services, green infrastructure planning, compact and green cities. Since food production and food consumption are a major pillar for fostering sustainability, I am also working in the fields of edible cities, urban agriculture and sustainable human-food relationships guided by the target of a planetary health diet.
In terms of methods, I have in particular experiences in social sciences and relational approaches (surveys, interviews, focus groups, Q-method, intra-views, mindful practices). For instance, I am working with my research group URBNANCE (https://urbnance.ioer.info/en/index.htm) with the positive vision on urban human-nature partnerships applying creative methods such as role games or poetics.

I am in particular interested in relational methods capturing the interlinkages between urban biodiversity and our inner worlds fostering resonating or mute relations with biodiversity. This can address urban residents on an individual level as well as urban planners, NGOs and business on a collective scale. How are our inner worlds shaping the care for biodiversity and vice versa? An valueable approach to these questions can be the focus on food - what we eat is shaping our wellbeing as well as healthy ecosystems.
Overall, I am inspired by projects considering nature not as a mere object that can be controlled and exploited by humans. Rather, I believe that we can learn from Indigenous cultures celebrating Nature as a soulful and intelligent being holding intrinsic values. However, in this regard we need more research how we can translate such worldviews and values in a Western world driven by an increasing acceleration, consumerism and individualism. How can we translate such positive visions like urban human-nature partnerships in daily actions of urban residents and institutions? I am interested in these major questions.
If you are resonating with my words and ideas, I am looking forward to your message.
