I need to assess the diversity (at Molecular and aggro-morphological), and the nutritional and anti-nutritional composition of common crops (cereal e.g. barley and vegetables especially indigenous once) for food security nutrition & climate resilience. Therefore, I would like to join experts of biologists, agronomists, plant breeders, crop production, selection, genetics, food scientists & nutritionists, etc. who are working in these areas.
Barley is one of the food security, nutrition-rich, healthy & climate resilient crops, currently the globe used as feed and brewing. It is high in fiber, especially beta-glucan, which may reduce cholesterol and blood sugar levels. however, in developing countries especially Ethiopia, its genetic diversity is not well assessed although unique disease resistance genes and other peculiar traits are reported. Over 17 000 plant materials are found in the national repository but only few are assessed their diversity. Only few varieties are developed for yield but only small yield increment is achieved. This is mainly due to poor mining of the diversity that exists. Almost no variety is developed for its quality. Therefore, due to the burden of non-communicable diseases, food insecurity and malnutrition in developing countries is quite important to assess, and wisely use genetic resources. Hence, I am always ready to join with potential teams and funding organizations to work in such valuable resources.
