Our research group has expertise in extraction and chemical, biochemical and biological characterization of proteins, peptides, polyphenols and polysaccharides obtained from vegetal and animal sources. Biological characterization, consisting in cytotoxicity evaluation and antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative, hepatoprotective or gastroprotective activities, is conducted in vitro on various cell culture lines. We are also focused on valorization of animal and vegetal by-products from the fish, vegetable, wine and agricultural industries for the production of biomaterials, dermato-cosmetics, nutraceutical products or natural products with a biopesticidal or biofungicidal effect. We also have access to the Black Sea and Danube Delta ecosystems due to the DANUBIUS-RI project, which support de construction of a large research facility in the Danube Delta (Murighiol).
