I currently work with marine viruses, studying their role in global elemental cycling in the deep sea and in particular deep sea trench sediments. I use a combination of molecular and microbiological cultivation methods to study isolated virus-host systems and how viruses can tweak their hosts' metabolism during infection. Alot of my time is spent on bioinformatics doing community-based studies using large metagenomic datasets from field samples. In my previous work I worked on time-series data on microbial communities, climate change, marine heatwaves, and used trait-based concepts to model microbially driven elemental cycling in the oceans.

I'm very interested in trait-based approaches and modeling and would like to work on a project that apply similar ideas to microbial and/or viral research questions. I am also interested in climate change and extreme weather phenomena and their impact on ecosystems.
