The work of our research group is based on the bioprospecting of plant material, algae, microalgae and agri-food by-products to obtain bioactive compounds using green extraction technologies (supercritical fluids, bio-based solvents, subcritical water extraction and natural deep eutectic solvents). In addition, we have the capacity to study the bioactivity of the extracts in vitro and to perform high resolution mass spectrometry analysis from a metabolomic perspective in order to associate bioactivity to composition. We are currently working on a project to obtain compounds with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity and the ability to inhibit acetylcholinesterase, in order to valorize agro-food by-products and microalgae and alleviate the effects of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's. We are also working with researchers around the world (and hosting them) to study these bioactivities in biomasses from diverse ecosystems such as the Sahara, Colombian and Brazilian rainforests and Antarctic waters.

We can join a project that wants to valorize biomass or study the possibilities of biodiversity to fight health issues such as non-transmissible diseases like neurodegenerative diseases or certain types of cancer. We base our research on green processes inspired by the principles of green chemistry and green engineering. We can even design labscale equipment for sub and supercritical fluid extraction.

We are able to collaborate with researchers from all over the world, in fact we used to host pre- and post-doctoral researchers from the 5 continents. Feel free to contact us for an online meeting and we can discuss future collaboration.
