The main domain of scientific activity of the Biological Safety Unit is the health risk assessment of populations environmentally exposed to microbes, including bioaerosols. The main purpose of the research is to assess the impact of harmful agents (pathogenic and antibiotic-resistant bacteria, fungi in general, dominant and selected types/species of fungi, endotoxins, glucans, ergosterol, volatile organic compounds, aldehydes, CO2, inhalable dusts, PM2.5) on the health of exposed people (employees, residents, students, drivers etc.). The human health risk assessment can be conducted by the descriptive method (best for biological agents) or using the proper health indexes recommended in world scientific literature in the area of epidemiology.
