ATMonteiro is Junior Researcher and lecturer at the Centre of Geographical Studies (CEG) from the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning (IGOT) of University of Lisbon, Portugal. He obtained a PhD in Agroecology in 2011 at University of Milan, Faculty of Agriculture Sciences. ATMonteiro has expertise in mountain ecology, namely in the application of remote sensing and ecological modelling to assess land cover/use change impacts on pasture and forest biodiversity. In the last years, he is also contributing to climate change studies focused on ecosystem services evaluation. Currently, he is focused in the impacts of rural development policy in mountain territories through earth observations and modelling. The final goal is to improve methodologies, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development in mountains. He has performed research in the mountain systems of Europe (Portugal, Italy) and Africa (Angola, Madagascar).
Skills: -Pasture and forest habitat change monitoring/modelling with optical remote sensing -Satellite imagery classification -Biodiversity modelling forced by Earth observation input data -Statistical modeling, including machine learning and artificial intelegence. -Project management (e.g. ECOPOTENTIAL H2020)
