Biodiversa Joint Research Call 2022-2023 on "Improved transnational monitoring of biodiversity and ecosystem change for science and society (BiodivMon)"
The main interest of our group, during the last two projects, is evaluation of microbial communities from different environments: soil and sediments, marine and river water from natural or polluted environments. Taxonomic biodiversity and relative abundance of taxa in microbial communities dynamics are in correlation with different external changes that can occur in a specific time frame. In order to establish a taxonomic overview of the most abundant bacterial species, DNA isolation from the fresh samples is one of the most important step, followed by metabarcoding sequencing and bioinformatics pipelines; for data analysis QIIME2 toolkit was our first choice. In more complex study metagenomic approach could be more suitable and can provide more in-depth information about the interactions between microbes and environment.
