My research focuses on conservation biology and the use of ecophysiological tools in sentinel organisms (top predators) for the assessment of habitat quality. This entails the study of ecological interactions between biotic and abiotic stressors and vertebrate health and fitness, using biological sampling, biochemical and clinical analyses, and molecular and evolutionary biology approaches, and by combining natural (fieldwork-based) and controlled (in captivity) experimental setups. I'm also interested in the ecology of avian infectious diseases and host-parasite interactions using Lyme borreliosis and avian malaria as disease model systems.
